Thanksgiving – 18 May 2024

1. Dear Mother of Perpetual Help,

Thank you so much for being with my husband and me during our recent Camino trip in Spain. It was our first time doing a Camino walk. I thank God for the unexpectedly beautiful weather that made our walk over 6 days just perfect. I thank God also for giving my husband and me the strength and health that we needed for the walk. We made so many friends and encountered our Heavenly Father in the beautiful natural surroundings — the streams, the sunshine, the cool breeze, and the strangers that walked with us on this journey.

Your Loving Catholic Daughter.

2. Dear Mother,

I am thankful to your Son, Jesus, for the many years of blessings and graces upon us. My son was granted a place in Medical School after years of trying. I prayed for your help to give my son a chance. I am grateful for this as this was his wish, and also for his return to Church 2 years ago. He is trusting in you and your Son, Jesus.

Your Thankful Child.

3. Dear Mother Mary,

This is a long overdue letter of gratitude for your kind intercession and guidance even when I was not aware. 3 years after my daughter was born, I had prayed for your intercession to God to grant me another child. As I was not young, I was worried it would be difficult to conceive again. For 2 weeks, I had experienced severe bloating in my stomach, and a friend recommended me to a gastro specialist. On the day of the appointment, I walked past a pharmacy on the way to the clinic. Even though I was getting late for my appointment, I felt prompted to stop and buy a pregnancy test kit. I cannot explain how and why it happened, but I ended up with the test kit, and a restroom nearby.  To my amazement, I found I was pregnant with my second child! When I went to see the gastro specialist, he told me “Lucky you tested earlier, because if I had injected the dye in you, your child will be in danger! Please go and see your gynae now.” I pondered on what had happened, and I strongly believe it was through your intercession, dearest Mother, that my child was protected, and I was blessed with a healthy son 9 months later. No words can describe how much your intercession meant to me; I thank you from the depths of my heart. Also, recently I was out of job after 2 years with the company. I am now in my senior years and finding a job was very tough. I prayed for your intercession to the Lord for the opportunity of finding another job. Countless job applications did not amount to anything. Then one day my ex-colleague connected me with his contact in Healthcare, and I was offered a contract role for a year. Dearest Mother, once again thank you for guiding me through the different stages of my life. I am truly thankful to you for affirming my faith. I believe that no matter what challenges life throws at me, your love will bring me through.

Your Loving Daughter.

4. Dearest Mother Mary,

Thank you very much for interceding for me. My 2 ovarian cysts were gone after 9 months from the date of discovery, and my prayer to have a child was granted after 6 years of marriage.

Your Most Grateful Daughter.

5. Dearest Mother,

I was laid off last November. This came as a shock as I was the sole breadwinner in the family and I was already 54 years old. Although I was upset, I pressed on, and by the grace of your Son, Jesus, I was offered another job in mid-March 2024. I am very grateful to you for interceding for me.

Your Grateful Son.

6. Dear Mother Mary,

I cannot believe the miracle I recently witnessed. I wrote to you in November 2023 about a friend who had suffered from a stroke. He is in his forties, and suffered a severe stroke that left him unable to walk and talk, and could only blink his eyes. He had lost the use of half his brain and doctors said it was unlikely that he would recover. I asked for your intercession, and I am happy to see that he has improved so much that he is now able to carry a conversation with me! I am so touched by this.

Your Most Loving Daughter.

7. Dear Mother Mary,

I want to thank you for your intercession in healing me from depression and for nursing me back to health. It has been many years of ups and downs, and while I still struggle at times, I am grateful for your company in my journey.

Your Son.

8. Dearest Mother Mary,

Thank you so much for your intercession. I have been accepted at NUS, and got into the course I wanted. I trust that I was given this course, as the Lord thinks it is best for me too. Thank you for being beside me throughout my ‘A’ Levels and University applications. Thank you for always being there by my side.

Your Daughter.

9. Dearest Mother,

Thank you for your prayers that released me from the chains of addiction. Thank you for never giving up on us, for your boundless love and protection, and for the many blessings we have received through your intercession. We hope to learn and become a blessing like you to others around us.

Your Loving Daughter.

10. Dear Mother of Perpetual Help,

This is a very long overdue letter, written with greatest gratitude. As a teenager, I came to the Novena weekly and prayed for many things. Some prayers were answered and many were not. I lost my faith and for a short period of time I left the Church. When my son was born, I decided to bring him up in the Catholic faith and started attending Mass to set a good example for him. At the happiest time of my life, my husband got sick and passed on. Again, I struggled with my faith, and became suicidal and depressed. Not only did I lose my husband, my in-laws threw me out of their family business, which I had put all my efforts to make it successful. My son was 17 years old and he was very sensible and understanding of the pains his mother was going through, and studied hard to get a scholarship. Today, he graduates with an honours’ degree. My lukewarm faith made a sudden turn, when a very caring priest approached and counselled me. At 59 years old, I made my first confession! I found peace as I let go of all my pains. Now, I will pay forward by doing God’s work and helping the less fortunate. Mother dearest, thank you for not giving up on me and for always interceding for me!

Your Ever Grateful Daughter.
