A LENTEN JOURNEY IN THE BEATITUDES
“Blessed are” in each beatitude implies a current state of happiness or well-being, living a God filled life. This expression holds a powerful meaning of “divine joy and perfect happiness” to the people of Christ’s day. At Lent we also recall the sacrifice of Jesus, his suffering, death and resurrection. We are encouraged in practices such as fasting, prayer, and almsgiving as a way to deepen their connection with God and to reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

Blessed are the poor in spirit,for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
神贫的人是有福的，因为天国是他们的。
Happy are you who are poor, are the freest! When we are poor or have emptied within, it needs to be filled, but filled with what?
贫穷的人是有福的，因为最自由！当我们贫穷或内里空洞时，就需要填补，但我们要用什么来填补呢?

Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
哀恸的人是有福的，因为他们要受安慰。
To the depth and degree that we own the brokenness in our individual lives, to the same depth and degree, we will experience the blessedness of God’s comfort, healing, restoration and consolation in our mourning.
生命中有着怎样深度和程度的破碎，我们也会在哀恸中经验到同样深度和程度的，来自天主的安慰、治愈、整合与慰藉。

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land
温良的人是有福的，因为他们要承受土地。
A meek person has an entirely new way of dealing with power through service, with possessions by using them on behalf of the poor, and with prestige by avoidance of any show of this.
一个温良的人有用一种全新的方式，将所拥有的资源强有力地用于服务贫穷者，并避免夸耀这服务。

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be filled.
饥渴慕义的人是有福的，因为他们要得饱饫。
Justice is one of the attributes of God, beside love, peace and forgiveness. We become blessed with justice, we share in God’s life, which empowers us to be faithful.
公义是天主在慈爱、平安和宽恕以外的其中一个属性。我们通过正义分享天主的生命，使我们对祂忠诚而成为有福的人。

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
怜悯人的人是有福的，因为他们要受怜悯。
Mercy is related to the forgiveness of failings, shortcomings, hurts and sins.
怜悯是与原谅他人的失败、缺点、伤害和罪过有关。它反映天主对我们的宽恕，以及我们原谅他人的行为。

Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
心里洁净的人是有福的，因为他们要看见天主。
In giving oneself over to the ways of God, this action is reciprocated to the needs of others too. This is the blessedness of seeing God.
当我们降服于天主的作为时，这行动也会投射到对他人的需要上。这就是看见天主的有福性。

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God
缔造和平的人是有福的，因为他们要称为天主的子女。
God is the ultimate peacemaker, reconciling us to Himself through Jesus Christ. When we make peace, we mirror this divine action and show that we are true children of God.
天主是最终的和平缔造者，祂通过耶稣基督与我们和好。当我们缔造和平时，我们也反映这神圣的行为并显示我们真是祂的子女。

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
为义而受迫害的人是有福的，因为天国是他们的。
Righteousness is a God-centered attribute: no man can attain it through his own efforts apart from His ordinance. By choosing righteousness over immorality, we give witness to a higher calling, living a true life in Christ and accepting his invitation to the kingdom.
正义是一个以天主为中心的属性：没有人能以自己的努力而不通过天主的律法获得正义。通过选择正义而非不道德的生活，我们为那更高超的召叫，去度在基督内的真实生命，并接受祂的邀请，进入天国而作见证

Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
几时人为了我而辱骂迫害你们，捏造一切坏话毁谤你们，你们是有福的。你们欢喜踊跃吧！因为你们在天上的赏报是丰厚的，因为在你们以前的先知，人也曾这样迫害过他们。
Why should I want to follow and live this difficult command and invite others to join me in this life required of a Christian? The season of Lent calls us to look into our lives.
我为什么要跟随及度这么艰难的基督徒生活，还邀请别人加入这行列？四旬期邀请我们正视我们的生活。
